Sassy Baby's First Books customer reviews: Baby books Had to let these sit open for about a week before giving them. When you open the package you get a "HEAVY" vinyl smell. Cleaning them does not help. After a week smelled normal. Our son loves them A couple of flaws but still enjoyable. My niece just turned 1 year old and she received these books as a gift. Her mother loves to read to her so a few more books to add to her collection was the perfect gift. Let's talk about the positives first. You get 4 books in this set and each of them are great in their own way. All of them are only a few pages long which is great because my niece has a rather short attention span (like most babies) and every page is bright and colorful. "Hello Bee, Hello Me!" contains contrasting colors with different animals. The text is really cute and simple. The peek a boo book is my niece's favorite out of the 4. The pages in this book contain flaps that the baby can lift to see what's hiding. There's also a mirror at the end of this book. "Baby's Sense-ation Book" contains pages of different textures (the first page has a "sense-ation" perfect for teething). "Who Loves Baby?" is simply a blank book that has sleeves to place pictures in. My niece loves to stare at pictures so this is a great book to give to her when her mom needs a few minutes to do other things. And now for the negatives. There's really only a couple things I can think of that are negative. First, if you're giving this as a gift, I have to mention that the packaging isn't anything special. It's just a plain old plastic bag. Second, as the other reviewer mentioned, the books smell. And with my niece teething and biting everything she comes in contact with, we're constantly having to tell her not to bite the books because the plasticy smell screams "KEEP THIS FAR AWAY FROM BABIES". This is a cute set of books but keep in mind the two things I mentioned above before buying. Great Set!!! great gift My daughter loves these books, all of them! i didn't expect such a good quality, plus they are perfect to entertain in the car or places that i need her to be quiet. The design, materials and colors are perfect and easy to clean, i've had them for over 6 months now and i couldn't be happier with this purchase. Highly recomended as educational gift! Baby's Favorites Our baby has lots of books and we make many available to her in her crib to read when she wakes up in the morning or after her nap. However, out of all of the books, these are the ones that she reads (and likes getting read to her) again and again. We only gave them to her after the plastic smell wore off after about a week. This set is nice because the books cover a few developmental levels - at first, when she was 3-4 months old, she only responded to the repetitive words and rhythm in "Hello Bee, Hello Me" and has gradually starting liking the other books. Now, at 12 months, she loves to leaf through the photo album (at least after I got around to getting some photos to put into it) and lift the flaps on the Peek-A-Boo Book. I was unsure how to read that one to her early on but finally decided to use it like a game ("What's hiding on that branch?" "Peek-a-boo" lift flap "It's a bird!"). That keeps her attention and makes her giggle. She still has yet to understand what to do with the senses book but I am sure that will come with time. Excellent baby books These books are terrific. I got them when my son was born. When he was very little, he liked to chew on them for teething. They are his favorite books now at 13 months- especially the one that you can put 4 x 6 pictures in. The hello bee one is also a source of constant amazement for him. They have held together great while traveling and are easy to clean. As other people said, they definitely smell of vinyl when they first arrive but after a good airing and washing, they're fine. I highly recommend them!
